Signs it’s time to renovate your bathroom

Signs it’s time to renovate your bathroom

Bathrooms wear out quietly. There’s rarely one dramatic moment that tells you it’s time for a renovation — it’s usually a handful of small annoyances that build up until you stop noticing them, or a family emergency, or a resale conversation. If you’ve been putting off a bathroom renovation and aren’t sure whether now’s the time, here are five signs worth paying attention to.

1. Water damage or soft flooring near the tub or shower
Soft or discoloured flooring around the base of a tub or shower usually means water has been getting underneath the surface for a while. This isn’t just cosmetic — it can lead to subfloor damage and mold if it’s left unaddressed. A renovation is the chance to fix the waterproofing properly, not just patch over the symptom.

2. The layout doesn’t fit how your household actually uses it
A lot of Maple Ridge homes have bathrooms designed decades ago for a different kind of household. If you’re stepping around each other every morning, or the tub is barely used but takes up half the room, that’s a sign the layout — not just the finishes — needs to change.

3. Ventilation problems or recurring mold
If you’re seeing mold return again and again no matter how often you clean it, the ventilation itself is likely undersized or poorly placed. This is a common issue in older homes and one of the most important things to fix during a renovation, since it affects both comfort and long-term air quality.

4. Fixtures that constantly need repair
A dripping faucet or a running toilet here and there is normal wear and tear. But when you’re calling a plumber for the third time this year, the fixtures themselves have likely reached the end of their usable life, and a renovation is more cost-effective long-term than repeated repairs.

5. You’re planning to sell in the next few years
Bathrooms and kitchens are two of the biggest factors buyers weigh when touring a home. A dated bathroom can quietly lower offers even when the rest of the home is in great shape — updating it now, on your own timeline, is almost always better than negotiating it into the sale price later.

If any of these sound familiar, let’s talk about your bathroom renovation.
